Councillor Disputes Speed Camera Claims

One claim he addressed is about speed camera company having control of tickets

A Niagara Regional councillor is again rebutting what he says are false claims about speed cameras around the region.

Robert Foster spoke to Lincoln council Monday, saying any ticket revenue is used for further traffic safety measures, and not for profit.

He also addressed commentary about the company making the cameras.  "The third party has no control whatsoever over the ticketing.  It doesn't matter if there's one ticket or 10-million tickets.  Some of the commentary that's going on about gaming by the people that own these things is not true."

He's also hopeful to see more police in areas where the cameras are not in place.

He also addressed complaints about lack of signs.

"I don't know how people can say there's not signage.  It is a school zone, it is a community safety zone, so your fines are doubled.  There is a sign stating the times that the speed limits are in place."

He added tickets, whether it be speeding or red light camera, are all reviewed before sent in the mail.

Councillor Foster made similar comments when addressing regional council.
