Pink Slips Handed Out at St. Catharines GM Plant

A majority of the workers at the St. Catharines GM plant will be going home with pink slips today.

Up to 800 employees will be laid off as of Monday, this works out to about two-thirds of the workforce.

It's day five of the GM strike in the United States, with more than 49,000 United Auto Workers walking the picket lines.

This has resulted in the closure of 33 manufacturing facilities and 22 parts distribution warehouses across the country.

The plant on Glendale Ave ran out of parts for it's V8 and V6 engines this week, leaving only the transmission on the production lines.
