The SIU will not be charging an NRP officer, after a 46-year-old man was shot multiple times in Smithville.
Police were called out to a family disturbance at a home on Anastasia Boulevard on December 21st, 2018.
Officers had heard reports that the man had tied one or more of his family members in the basement and was holding them against their will.
The man was walking towards a pick-up truck when police arrived on scene.
A struggle ensued when they tried to grab him from behind. They tased the man but it had no effect.
SIU investigators say the man pulled out a gun and pointed it at police, so one of the officers opened fire.
The man was taken to hospital afterwards.
