New Security Team for Niagara Detention Centre

They will be cracking down on gangs, drugs and weapons at Niagara Detention Centre.

Solicitor General Sylvia Jones was at the Thorold facility earlier today to announce the new Institutional Security Team.

Jones says these teams collect information on criminal activity inside the facilities and help keep front-line staff safe.

A team will also be added at Toronto East Detention Centre.

At least four experienced correctional officers make up each team, and there are already five in place at other facilities, including Hamilton.

It's the latest move in the provincial government's plan to reform the correctional system in Ontario.
