Hello there,
My name is Melissa De Freitas , and I'm preparing for a long-distance walk in support of children battling cancer.
Working in healthcare has shown me just how deeply cancer can impact not only patients, but the people who love and support them. Many of us have been touched by cancer at some point in our lives-through a friend, a family member or someone close to us. I’ve been inspired by the strength of the patients and families I’ve encountered to do something meaningful and with purpose.
This Canada Day I'll be walking 200 kilometers from Niagara Falls to Toronto for the "Little Superheroes: A Walk For Kids With Cancer", to help raise money in support of children in need. Beginning the walk on Canada Day makes it extra special, as we can celebrate togetherness, community, and caring for others while coming together for a meaningful cause.
To make this journey fun and uplifting, I will be walking the entire way in COSTUMES (five different costumes for the five days commute): bright, playful, and recognizable characters that I hope will bring some fun, laughter and light to the long route.
So, when I reach the finish near the C.N Tower on Sunday July 5th, I won't just be ending the walk-I'll be shaving my head and donating my hair to help create wigs for children going through cancer.
Thank you so much for your time and role you play in supporting and connecting the community.
Warm regards,
Melissa
