BAGPIPE & DRUM LESSONS COMING TO ST. CATHARINES
Award-Winning Pipe Major Peter MacKenzie to Host Youth Open House March 21
St. Catharines, ON – A dedicated group of award-winning pipers and drummers, led by Pipe Major Peter MacKenzie — a 12-time North American Pipe Band Champion — is bringing the powerful sound of Scottish music to the youth of Niagara.
An Open House will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Niagara, located at 2 Facer Street in St. Catharines.
The event invites boys and girls ages 9 to 13 to experience and try:
• One of three types of bagpipes
• One of three sizes of drums
• Hands-on instruction from award-winning musicians
• A live introduction to the traditions of Scottish performing arts
“We want to introduce the youth of our Region to the inspiring sounds of bagpipes and drums,” said Pipe Major Peter MacKenzie. “This is a unique opportunity for young people to try something new, build confidence, and become part of a proud musical tradition.”
The Open House is presented by the School for Scottish Performing Arts & Music in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Niagara. The organization is actively recruiting young musicians who are interested in learning, performing, and potentially competing in pipe band events in the future.
No prior musical experience is necessary.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend and learn more about lesson schedules, equipment, and program opportunities.
