For a few short weeks in the spring of each year, the forest floor bursts with colour from ’Spring Ephemerals’ such as Trilliums, Trout lilies and Virginia Bluebells which quickly disappear as the tree canopies fill out. Join us for an evening as Aleksia explains the lifecycle of these amazing plants, as well as why they’re so difficult to grow and transplant.
Alexandria Shoalts is a Master Gardener, former garden columnist for the Voice of Pelham, and past executive member of both the Pelham Garden Club and Simcoe Horticultural Society. She enjoys the daily challenges and rewards of gardening on her country property in North Pelham, ranging from tackling invasives, to keeping out deer, to growing cut flowers, integrating native plants, gardening for butterflies, and growing food and vegetables for her family, including her three young boys (ages one, three, and five who are always eager to help!). Alexandria earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Waterloo and completed her Master Gardener training at the University of Guelph. In her free time, she enjoys forest walks and foraging for wild mushrooms with her other half, explorer and nature author Adam Shoalts.

All are welcome! First meeting is on us! Next meeting is $15 for the year. The Niagara Falls Horticultural Society hosts meetings from September to May with speakers presenting a variety of topics on all things Horticulture. There are also monthly flower shows that members can enter, draw prizes plus refreshments served. During the spring/summer we have our Annual Plant Sale, Annual Rose & Flower show (free to the public), Garden Tour and Annual Flower & Vegetable show (free to the public). We're a friendly bunch of people (all ages) who enjoy all things gardening from beginner to advanced. Come see what we're all about. We are a not for profit organization beautifying & educating the community through horticultural initiatives.
