A new 12-storey hotel is on the horizon for Niagara Falls.

Mayor Jim Diodati says the Hilton Garden Inn will be built on Fallsview Boulevard, where the old Pyramid Place IMAX currently stands.

"It used to be a real neat place back in the day, but it has gotten old and tired and it doesn't do the same kind of attracting that it once did. We're definitely are experiencing a growth in tourism with more people wanting to stay and I think this fits right in."

It will offer 230 rooms, one block away from the new 5,000 seat theatre.

Diodati says they didn't really hear much opposition for the development, aside from a neighbouring property with a few concerns.

There's no word when shovels could hit the ground.
