Shovels are in the ground and work is underway at a new police facility in St. Catharines.

Acting Niagara Region CAO Ron Tripp says it will help regional police in providing meaningful service for the residents of St. Catharines.

He says the Region is thrilled to have partnered with the NRP in the development and construction of the new facility.

A ground-breaking ceremony was held for the District 1 building this morning.

The new facility will be 31,000 square feet on about three acres of land on Welland Avenue.
