A Day of Giving Supports Flood Victims

All Niagara radio stations partnering

Your opportunity to help people impacted by the two floods is coming Wednesday.

Our two radio stations, 101 Morefm and 105 The River, are partnering with the other Niagara radio stations for A Day of Giving, in which donations go to Community Cares and other groups.

The 10 FEED Niagara food banks are:

The Salvation Army-Fort Erie (Fort Erie)
Port Cares (Port Colborne, Wainfleet)
The Hope Centre (Welland)
Pelham Cares (Pelham)
Project SHARE (Niagara Falls)
Community Care St. Catharines & Thorold (St. Catharines & Thorold)
Newark Neighbours (Niagara on the Lake)
West Lincoln Community Care (West Lincoln)
Grimsby Benevolent Fund (Grimsby)
Community Care of West Niagara (Lincoln)

Community Cares CEO Betty Lou Souter says some people have lost everything. "People are finding out now that a lot of their things that they thought were covered, are not covered. so they're having to take money out of their budget from other things. So, this is a long term affect, the impact is going to be going on for weeks to come."

As a result of the flooding, many of her own volunteers have not been able to help as usual, as they were flooded.

That included one woman who sat with her. "They've been flooded twice, and she says 'It's raining, and I have such anxiety'. She says 'It's post traumatic stress, looking at the rain, what is it bringing to me, it's impacting my mental state, I just need time'. I said 'Absolutely'."

She appreciates the owner of our radio stations, Chris Byrnes, for initially approaching her with this. It'll be a day of guests on air, and taking your calls and texts, with donations and stories of what people went through, and still are going through.
