The region asking residents to pay less for waste services, but more for water
A slight drop in how much Niagara residents will pay next year for waste services, but the cost goes up for water and wastewater services.
The Niagara region approved a 1.15% decrease for waste, or $3 a year, partly due to the shift in blue box collection going from the region to producers.
For wastewater services, it goes up 7.42%, the region says 6.25% of that goes into a maintenance strategy program, the rest to cover day to day costs.
This means the average Niagara household can expect to pay another $60 in 2026, depending on the municipality you live in.
The final overall budget is still to come.
