Fortunately no fatalities reported so far
Environment Canada has confirmed a tornado ripped through Barrie yesterday afternoon leaving a swath of destruction in its wake.
So far no reports of any fatalities but 8 people were injured, 4 of them seriously.
Emergency crews were going door to door in a new subdivision that sustained the brunt of the devastation.
Officials say roughly 20 homes were damaged and three or four will have to be rebuilt.
Over a thousand homes and businesses were without power but Alectra crews worked overnight to restore electricity to the majority of those impacted.
The Premier tweeting out "My thoughts are with everyone in #Barrie and #Innisfil affected by the severe weather today. A big thank you to our first responders that are currently on the ground helping the situation."
