The province blaming the increase on a higher than expected data catchup process
But it seems that process caught even the Ministry of Health off guard.
Yesterday the province recorded just over 1,600 new infections over 24 hours, the last time the numbers were that high were in February.
When asked about the data dump Ministry officials said in an email they weren’t aware of the data issue prior to the release of the report.
The province says of those infections, 68 were variants of the virus.
