Burdett Sisler Dies at 110

He was Canada's oldest living man, and lived in Fort Erie

Fort Erie’s Burdett Sisler, the oldest known living man in Canada and one of the oldest Second World War veterans in the world, has died at age 110.

Sisler’s son Norman, a retired Fort Erie firefighter, says his father's passing is bittersweet because he lived a great and long life.

Born in Ohio in 1915, Sisler moved to Toronto as a child and served as a radar technician in Canada's military during the Second World War before settling in Fort Erie, to work for the Canada Border Services Agency.

Norman Sisler says he's been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for his family, including from Governor General Mary Simon and Veterans Affairs Minister Jill McKnight.
