Thousands of scientists sign letter urging the federal government to increase funding for graduate students and post-doctoral scholars.
Hundreds of scientists and researchers will be gathering on Parliament Hill this afternoon to call for better pay.
Organizers of the ``Support our Science'' rally say the group will present a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his science minister that has been signed by thousands of scientists.
The group says while graduate and post-doctoral scholars get federal funding from three agencies, it often amounts to less than minimum wage.
As a result, many scientists decide to leave the country or their line of work.
The group says graduate students and post-doctoral scholars provide the majority of post-secondary research in Canada.
Organizers are urging the federal government to bump funding by 48 percent in order to match inflation since 2003, and create more graduate scholarships and post-doctoral fellowships.
