Expect to pay more at Niagara landfill sites next month.
Effective April 1st, the fee for garbage, construction and demolition materials weighing 51 kg or more will increase from $115 to $117.
The fee for materials weighing under 50 kg will be at a minimum of $5.
For asbestos, the fee has increased from $300 per tonne to $385.
Council approved the increases in January after staff compared the disposal fees charged by other municipalities and private sector options.
Niagara residents are encouraged to separate all recyclable material in order to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills.
In addition, residents can save money by dropping off recyclable items at the landfill site before going across the scales with items they will be charged for.
