A purse valued at $3,500 was listed on Facebook Marketplace
A Niagara Falls man is facing charges after a stolen purse was listed on Facebook Marketplace.
Police say on October 15th, they responded to a theft on First Street Louth near Third Avenue Louth in St. Catharines.
Items had been taken from two vehicles the previous night, including a $3,500 Yves Saint Laurent purse that had a certificate of authenticity and an identifiable tag.
The purse was later listed for sale for $1,400.
Yesterday, the suspect agreed to sell the purse to undercover detectives, and was arrested.
James Roger McGowan, 39, faces the following charges:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (2 counts)
The purse has been returned to its rightful owner.
McGowan remains in custody, pending a bail hearing.
