Health Minister Christine Elliott says re-opening Ontario’s economy is entirely based on the province’s health.
She says the Chief Medical Officer of Health needs to see a downward trend in the number of new COVID-19 cases before we can begin step one.
“We certainly need to get it under where we are right now which is in the 400 to 500 level. So it needs to go down significantly from that before we can start opening up otherwise we might end up having another surge in cases.”
But in order for this to happen, she says we need to continue to practice social distancing.
“We know that it’s difficult for people especially with the weather getting nicer, but we’ve come this far and we just need to get to the end of it in terms of community spread.”
The province released its three-step plan to reopen the economy earlier this week.
Step one includes reopening parks in Niagara and beyond.
