Another step forward by the Town of Fort Erie and its plans for Douglas Memorial Urgent Care centre, as it's planned to close in 2028.
Earlier this week, town council approved a recommendation by consultant Santis Health to proceed with more detail on a Community Health Hub.
Council approved $118,000 from the South Niagara Hospital-Health Care Reserve to gather more information, including preparation for a business case.
Work by Santis Health included interviewing more than 20 stakeholder groups, and policy and funding analysis, and assessment of the Douglas Memorial site.
The town adds this does not mean approval of a Community Health Hub, it's simply approving the next information gathering stage.
Town council also approved looking at the Douglas Memorial site as a candidate for redevelopment, including housing and social needs, and keeping other options open.
A proposed centre could include extended after-hours and weekend service, mental health and addiction support, lab services and more.
