Two three-month-old baby goats have died following a small barn fire in Niagara Falls.
Crews were called out to the scene on Garner Road at around 8:45 p.m. last night.
The barn was fully engulfed in flames.
Deputy Fire Chief Joe Zambito says they spoke with the homeowner when they arrived on scene.
"The homeowner did advise us that he had a little heat lamp for the baby goats because of the cold. He was out there not too long prior to the fire, and he thought that one of the baby goats may have knocked it over."
Zambito says the homeowner was able to rescue a pony from the blaze. He was not hurt.
There's no word on a damage estimate at this time.
Zambito says you should always be extra cautious while trying to heat a barn over the cold winter months.
"Heating lamps are quite dangerous especially amongst the animals themselves. So we should be extra cautious with regards to the cold temperatures and providing temporary heat to these types of barns or anywhere where you're housing any type of animals."
