David Phillips recalls warm, rainy weather over 2 decades ago
An Environment Canada meteorologist is reserving judgment on the current warm, rainy weather.
David Phillips acknowledges there will be people pointing to tailpipes, smoke stacks and global warming, but the question remains to what degree is there a human component in this.
"The question to ask is it just infinitesimal, is it insignificant, or is it a huge factor? I don't think this particular bout of sort of unseasonal weather is something we can blame on human beings," he says.
He says these warm trends happen, we can expect more in the future. He's also recalling recent events. "The one year I can remember like this is 25 years ago. That was the famous ice storm in eastern Canada. Certainly in the Niagara and Toronto and GTA we got nothing but rain."
He says sometimes an air mass will come from the south and linger, causing the current conditions.
