Dodgeball Tournament Coming to Niagara

Winners of the provincial match go on to national level in Markham

A tournament is coming to the Canada Games Park in Thorold Easter weekend that will hopefully bring back... fond memories of childhood.

President of Dodgeball Ontario Steve Velleseche says roughly 300 athletes will compete for a provincial spot, the nationals to be played not long after.

He adds players can get the softer nerf type ball moving fast.  "Teams are shifting from offence to defence rapidly, can still be at times a very fast paced game.  Then, at other times, when it's beneficial, you'll see teams slow it down, be a lot more calculated about how many balls they're throwing, how many they are keeping."

"You would be amazed at how fast talented players can get these balls moving.  Even mid-level players, once you get the hang of it, it's still an eye opener when you get 2 or 3 coming at your face."

Winners from the Thorold tournament advance to the national competition in Markham.
