Drugs/Weapons Found in Traffic Stop

No signal and incorrect plates lead to drugs

A routine police traffic stop in Welland turning up illegal drugs, and some weapons.

Police were patroling the East Main Street area on Saturday, when they stopped a white GMC on Dorothy Street.

The driver was arrested for using plates not authorized for the vehicle, and, a search of the vehicle turned up:

• 16.4 grams suspected Methamphetamine
• 0.6 grams suspected Fentanyl
• 72.6 grams suspected Cocaine
• 35 Morphine Tablets
• 48 Hydromorphone Tablets
• 68 Oxycodone Tablets
• 4.6 grams suspected MDMA
• 3 grams suspected LSD
• 32.9 grams Cannabis
• 111 Tablets of unknown substance
• 3 Stolen Ontario License Plates
• Expandable Baton
• 2 Knives
• Machete
• Materials consistent with the illegal trafficking of drugs
• $15 in Canadian Currency

Police arrested 39-year old Trevor McLaren of Welland, charged with:

• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (7 counts)
• Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Distributing
• Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 (2 counts)
• Possession of a Schedule III Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance
• Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle
• Fail to Signal for Turn
• Fail to Have Insurance Card

34-year old Mario Michienzi of Welland is facing charges:

• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (7 counts)
• Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Distributing
• Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000
• Possession of a Schedule III Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance
• Fail to Property Wear Seatbelt

Both had bail hearings.
