A special weather statement has been issued for the region.
Environment Canada warns Niagara may see isolated thunderstorms across the region this afternoon, with brief but heavy downpours.
Wind gusts up to 70 km/hr, as well as about 20 to 40 mm of rainfall in an hour or less are possible.
Drivers may experience low visibility and ponding of water on poorly drained areas of the highway.
The showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to end this evening.
