UPDATE: The Ford Government is proposing a new screening process, for the environmental assessment program.
Environment Minister Jeff Yurek says it would exempt low-impact waterpower projects.
"This is an example of how our government is looking at smarter, more modern ways of doing business to remove unnecessary costs and delays for important public services and infrastructure projects."
Yurek made the announcement in Niagara this morning, while paying a visit to the Ontario Power Generation plant in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The proposed amendments to the Ontario Waterpower Association's Class Environmental Assessment will go out for public review and comment next month.
Ontario's Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks will be in Niagara today.
Jeff Yurek will tour the Ontario Power Generation facility in Niagara-on-the-Lake this morning.
He will be holding a press conference afterwards, which will get underway at 10:00 a.m.
Yurek will be making an announcement, about modernizing the environmental assessment process.
