Provincial funding to protect from abandoned oil and gas wells in Niagara
The Niagara Region getting $280,000 from the provincial government to manage old and inactive oil and gas wells.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says it'll protect the environment, and manage risk associated with abandoned wells.
The money will buy equipment to support emergency response and provide additional health and training to staff who monitor these situations.
Regional councillor Rob Foster says the money will help protect the local watershed and natural habitat.
The Ontario government is investing $7.5-million over three years to reduce risk associated with old oil and gas wells, and enhance how communities respond to emergencies.
