National Truth and Reconciliation Day to remain holiday for federally regulated workers only in Ontario
In a statement to CTV News, the province's Indigenous Affairs Minister says they will not make the day a provincial statutory holiday.
Greg Rickford adding the province is working instead on a respectful commemoration of the day similar to Remembrance Day.
Rickford adding some employers may agree to treat the day as such and give their workers it off but for now it will remain a holiday for federally regulated employees.
The federal government created the new holiday in July to commemorate the tragic legacy of residential schools in Canada.
