The town considering asking management to resign
Frustration starting to boil over at Fort Erie council with Niagara Health, and the fight to keep Douglas Memorial Urgent Care centre open.
Council is considering asking for Niagara Health's board of Directors and CEO to resign, and be replaced with a provincial supervisor.
Councillor George McDermott praised all hospital staff, but then looked at management. "In what world do these people live in? I know Ms. Guerriero (CEO) is well taken care of, she makes over $200,000 more than the Prime Minister of Canada, and all she's got on her hands is 3 hospitals. To walk into our town and say your game is up here...."
Council voted Monday night to defer the motion to August to give more time for more negotiations.
Councillor Joan Christensen says greater scrutiny is needed, provincially, when running hospitals. "The best way for Ms. Guerriero and her board to support the operation of her hospitals, is in fact participate in finding local solutions."
Mayor Wayne Redekop noted they as a council, Niagara Health, and the province will eventually have to decide.
