Fort Erie Town Council is looking at updating some of it's policies in regards to climate change.
Mayor Wayne Redekop brought a motion forward at last night's council meeting. He called on staff to prepare a report and provide recommendations for anticipated impacts now and in the long term.
"As it's become obvious around the world there are changes taking place in climate and now we're experiencing more intense storms, sometimes more frequently, because we live on Lake Erie we have areas in town that are subject to flooding".
He says it's important to find out where flood plains are and what programs might be available to adapt to climate change and make necessary changes.
Council would like the report to detail what can be done now, that will also help in the future.
Councillor Nick Dubanow voiced his support and requested a recorded vote. The motion passed unanimously.
