The money is coming from the provincial government, adding more beds, services
A shelter in St. Catharines is expanding, thanks to $3.8-million from the provincial government.
Gillian's Place will be renovated, with 6 new beds, and increase supports for victims and survivors of gender-based violence in Niagara.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says the Marotta Family Centre for Violence Prevention and Outreach Support will also provide more beds, and bring more services under the same roof.
Completion of the Marotta Family Centre means more councilling, legal assistance, transitional and aftercare support, and violence prevention and community education programs.
The government adds over the past 5-years, women's shelters in Ontario helped an average of 14,300 women and dependents each year.
Ontario's plan also includes preventing gender-based violence and addressing the root causes.
