If legislation passes, the Niagara region to be run by a Chair, and 12 local mayors
The Ontario government announcing changes to how regional governments are run, including Niagara.
If the Better Regional Governance Act, 2026 is passed, it means the Niagara region will be run by an appointed Chair, and the 12 mayors of the region.
The chair will receive Strong Chair power, similar to Strong Mayor power.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says much of this was put together with the help and advise of local mayors and stakeholders.
