Penner Home Hardware had supplies of dehumidifiers, shop vacs, flying off the shelf after Monday's flooding
There's been a sharp rise in sales for certain Niagara businesses as a result of Monday's storm.
Robert Howard is the Assistant Manager of Penner Home Hardware in Virgil, and says customers were flocking to the store Tuesday morning for dehumidfiers, shop vacs, mops, buckets, and tubs to store items away from the water.
He says the lineup was there at 7:30, when they opened. "Pretty much the entire day, but we are able to secure enough product to get us to another day. We get another truck on Monday, and on Thursday, so we've been replenished for a lot of the things we sold out on for Tuesday."
He says many sump pumps were failing, as water came in through basement windows.
He also believes everyone responding to help those impacted by Monday's flooding is doing the best they can.
That includes insurance companies. "To stay up to speed, but in the case of someone who is trying to serve their clientelle, they're probably telling people they're number 2 or 3, or 4 on the list, and we'll get someone out to you."
Above all, he credits everyone for pulling together to make sure those impacted were helped.
