Homeless, City Finances Top Candidate's Concerns

A life long St. Catharines man says he wants to be mayor to restore the city, and eliminate mismanagement.

Jimmy Jackson has a lenghty list of goals, that includes.... "I'm running to protect our children, and lower our taxes... I feel like we need to fix our infrastructure that's behind $580-million."

He says economic development has stagnated, including condos in Port Dalhousie since 2022.  "There's lots of vacant buildings, there's been heritage buildings that have burned down in the downtown, and I don't want to see that anymore.  I know some said that was caused by homelessness."

He wants homeless people helped with treatment centres, and get them off the streets.  "We've already had Premier Doug Ford talk about non-voluntary treatment centres, because as soon as they emptied the Norris wing back in the day, a lot of these people were emptied out onto our streets, and they were given nowhere to go."

He pledges to advocate to the provincial government for help, and will do a full financial audit immediately.  "There's been money that's been spent that I do not agree with.  As a mayor, your expense sheet should be very low, and as a councillor, your expense sheet should be even lower."

He adds people should be hired based on experience, and not where they come from.

He is competing for mayor against Mat Siscoe, Ann-Marie Zammit, Henry Bosch and Anthony Adeoye.
