Mayor Mat Siscoe started birthday celebrations yesterday, for 150 years
Yesterday marked the beginning of a year long celebration for St. Catharines' 150th birthday.
Mayor Mat Siscoe was joined by federal, provincial and municipal leaders, and others, to raise a ceremonial flag, under the theme "Our Common Ground."
The city was officially incorporated on May 1st, 1876, but its' roots go back much further.
The mayor says the theme emphasizes the city's history, from the first Indigenous people, and those needing the help of the Underground Railroad.
Among the year long events, a community celebration at Montebello Park in May, and an enhanced Canada Day.
