Niagara's jobless rate shot up last month, to 5.2 percent.
It was sitting 4.8 percent in December.
Statistics Canada says Ontario's rate was also sitting at 5.2 percent in January, down slightly from the 5.3 percent reported the month before.
The national unemployment rate dropped slightly to 5.5 percent from 5.6 percent.
The Canadian economy lost 1,200 part time jobs last month, but we also added almost 36,000 full time jobs.
Statistics Canada says we added 34,500 jobs to the economy in the end.
