Police Chief praised Niagara members for standing at attention in 'pounding rain'

A moment of silence was held before the Niagara Regional Police services board meeting yesterday, honouring police officers killed the last few weeks in Ontario and Quebec.

Chief Bill Fordy and others have been to the funerals, including for Officer Tarun Bali and Constable Marc Pinnizzoto.

He recalls what happened as officers stood at attention.  "It was pounding rain, it was torrential.  Everyone of our members stood there, at attention, didn't flinch, didn't complain, grateful to be alive."

The chief added 'God forbid this ever happens in Niagara'.

He also noted how sad it is that OPP are getting very good at organizing these events, and applauded NRP officers for their support.  "I couldn't help but think that our members have the same commitment to duty.  I saw our members, as they described Tarun and Marc, I saw in our members the same qualities."

The flag at NRP headquarters will stay at half mast until the funerals in Quebec take place.
