Executive Director says they're seeing great results, after one year
It's been one year since the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre started its Child Victim and Witness program.
Executive Director Brian Bratt tells us they've been able to help children endure the court process, and give better testimony.
He says they're focused on the potential of every child, as young as 3 years old. "When kids don't get the support they need as children, those can lead to problems as adults. Those can lead to problems with social interaction, problems with drug abuse and addiction, potentially problems with holding down a job, to homelessness issues."
They've helped 191 children over the past year.
He points out it's tough retelling your story, with the accused in the room. "When the Crown attorney is done, another adult is going to stand up and tell you that you're lying, and that your story may not be the truth. This is really hard for anyone, let alone kids. So, our job is to make sure that these kids know what to expect."
He says they are seeing some great results.
