Police say this concerned the sale of a cell phone online, they met at a coffee shop, police accuse the suspect of using fake money
A St. Catharines man has been accused of using counterfeit money in an online sale.
Police say early last week the suspect and victim agreed to meet at a coffee shop in Welland to complete the sale of a used cell phone.
A couple days later the victim realized the money used by the suspect was fake.
Police were able to track the suspect to his St. Catharines home, and yesterday searched it, finding over $8,000 in suspect counterfeit Canadian money, and material used to make the fake money.
Police also found some crystal meth.
36-year old Eric Rockwell has a bail hearing today, charged with:
- Uttering, Using or Exporting Money
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Fail to Comply with Release Order x 2
- Making Counterfeit Money
- Possession of Counterfeit Money
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (Crystal Methamphetamine)
Police add there could be more victims, and to call police if you believe you are.
