Tony Baldinelli says he promised constituents he'd fight to keep Paul Bernardo in maximum security, after defeat of his bill
It's not surprising that Niagara Falls Conservative MP Tony Baldinelli is disappointed his bill to keep killers like Paul Bernardo in maximum security failed.
Bill C-232 was defeated yesterday by Liberal, NDP and Bloc Quebecois MPs, although St. Catharines Liberal Chris Bittle supported it.
Baldinelli says the last 11-years of Liberal government shows how Liberals value the rights of criminals over victims.
He adds Bill C-75 did away with mandatory penalties for serious drug and gun crimes. "They allowed for house arrest, for serious offences like arson. They implemented Bill C-75, which introduced the principle of restraint, which really tied the hands of our system, and led to the bail issues we see today."
He points to, as an example, the current bail system that has weaken after 11-years of Liberal government. "When it comes to issues like that. And that's my pledge, I'm not giving up, I'm going to continue to advocate on this issue, for when the day comes when there's a Conservative majority government, this bill is implemented and becomes law quickly."
