Murder Charge Laid in November Assault

Police originally charged suspect with assault after attack in St. Catharines, but victim died of injuries in December

A St. Catharines man has had an asssault charge against him upgraded to 2nd degree murder.

Police say it was back in November when they found a 54-year old man had been assaulted in the Queenston Street and Eastchester Avenue area, he was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police charged 36-year old Richard Taylor with assault and not complying with probation, he remained in jail after a bail hearing.

Police eventually changed the charge to aggravated assault, but the victim died in December from the injuries.

The homicide unit took over, and yesterday, police increased the charge to 2nd degree murder.

The suspect remains in jail.
