The Ontario NDP would like to make it easier for first-time home buyers in Niagara and beyond.
It's new housing plan would provide them with 10 percent of the price of their new home as down payment support.
It would be a shared equity loan.
Leader Andrea Horwath says Niagara is a great place to live but a lot of people struggle to make a down payment on a home due to the hot housing market.
The price of a single family home in Region ballooned almost 100 percent over the past five years according to the MLS Price Index.
Horwath says this needs to change.
"Ontario’s housing crisis has gotten worse and worse. The Liberals had 15 years to make things easier for Ontario families, and instead they let billionaire speculators snatch up the bulk of properties, forcing Ontario families to compete over what was left. Doug Ford has only made things worse."
The plan also looks provide financial support to 311,000 Ontario households to help them pay rent and build 69,000 affordable homes.
