Three local MPP's are backing NDP Leader Andrea Horwath's request that Premier Doug Ford call the legislature back into session.
Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates says that there is a crisis happening in the region's long-term care homes, and the legislature must reconvene to provide assistance.
"Despite having 10 months to prepare, the Ford government has left our homes without staff, PPE or supports to prevent these spreads. Now COVID-19 is spreading through our long-term care homes and threatening our senior’s lives. We cannot wait, we must immediately convene the legislature so we can send support and staff to Niagara to stop these outbreaks and save lives."
Niagara Centre MPP Jeff Burch agrees, saying that he has heard from numerous frontline workers who are concerned for their own health and safety.
He says that many facilities are lacking necessary personal protective equipment.
St. Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens has also chimed in on the issue, saying that the community needs access to vaccines quickly.
"My community were told vaccines were on the way, but they’ll still in refrigerators instead of being delivered to our residents and staff in long-term care who need them right now."
