24th Annual All Hands on Deck Initiative kicks off this morning as students return to class
Hundreds of Niagara school children return to class today and as usual Niagara Regional Police will be out in full force for their annual "All Hands on Deck" initiative.
The back to school awareness initative sees senior officers and members of specialty units not regularly assigned to patrol duties donning their uniforms and joining forces with general patrol officers to enhance traffic safety around school zones.
In addition to monitoring speed officers will be on the lookout for distracted driving and seat belt infractions.
School buses will also be back on the roads today with more than 100 of them equipped with video cameras to catch drivers who fail to stop for laoding school buses.
Motorists should keep in mind that penalties in Community Safety Zones near school are increased with speeding fines doubled.
