Meteor crashed down in the area this weekend.
Niagara residents are being asked to watch out for pieces of a meteorite that crashed down in the area early Saturday morning.
Western University physicist Peter Brown says the meteorite weighed about 500 kilograms and was less than a metre in diameter.
Residents living between Toronto and Hamilton were able to see the meteorite before it broke up in the atmosphere.
Brown says according to his research group, small pieces of the meteorite made it to the south shore of Ontario, with pieces landing around Grimsby, Vineland and north of St. Catharines.
Kim Tait, a mineralogy, meteorite and gem curator at the Royal Ontario Museum, says while a group of researchers scoured the area this weekend, the snowy weather made it difficult to find anything.
Tait says since the snow has melted, people may have an easier time finding black magnetic pieces of the meteorite.
