No Working Smoke Alarms Leads to Fines

St. Catharines fire department pleads for working smoke alarms in home

An appeal from St. Catharines fire service to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in the home.

It says on January 12th of last year, a St. Catharines home owner pled guilty to three charges related to failing to install working alarms, along with failing to ensure they were in working order.

The conviction has led to $7,500 worth of fines.

Fire chief Dave Upper says this serves as a reminder this isn't only the law, but alarms provide criticial warning of impending emergency.

He adds fire departments province-wide are seeing an increasing number of fatal fires in which people don't have working smoke alarms.
