The NRP is encouraging motorists not to remove mufflers to make their cars louder.
From April 1st until September 30th, the NRP will continue "Operation Loud and Clear", with enforcement continuing year round.
In September 2020, 52 Provincial Offence Notices were issued in Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake for cars with defects or modifications to make them louder.
This includes offences for no muffler, improper muffler and unnecessary noise.
Under section 75 of the Highway Traffic Act, all automobiles or motor assisted bicycles are required to have a working muffler in order to prevent excessive noise and smoke.
