The Niagara Regional Police Service has stepped up to help the needy throughout the region.
The NRPS collected 20,274 pounds of food during its week-long Spring Food Drive.
About $13,354.30 in cash and gift cards was also collected as part of the initiative.
Post Food in Niagara Falls donated about 4109 pounds of cereal products, and 630 pounds of chicken meals was donated by Powell Drywall in Welland.
Several grocery stores also donated food
The NRPS teamed up with nine local food banks and 12 Niagara grocery stores in an effort to support Niagara families impacted by the pandemic.
Food banks supported by the drive include:
- Salvation Army - Fort Erie
- Port Cares - Port Colborne
- Hope Centre - Welland
- Pelham Cares - Pelham
- Project Share - Niagara Falls, Niagara on the Lake
- West Lincoln Community Care - Smithville
- Community Care - St. Catharines, Thorold
- Grimsby Benevolent Fund - Grimsby
- Community Care of West Niagara - Beamsville
