Police found a man's body in the Niagara River in 1995, American authorities helped bring closure

The body of a man found in the Niagara River in 1995 has been identified.

Niagara regional police found the body back then, an autopsy was done, but he was never identified, so he remained as "John Doe".

In June of last year, police were called by the "DoeNetwork", indicating a possible match with a missing 46-year old Niagara Falls, New York man.

Authorities say DNA samples of the man's family were connected to the remains, and this past summer his identity was confirmed.

The family chose to have a headstone for their father's grave in Canada, and have asked his name not be released.
