Ontario's tourism minister says the province will not keep the staycation tax credit.
Neil Lumsden says the tax credit, which was introduced to spur tourism, will end this year.
Lumsden notes the province is finding other ways to support the sector, including $19.1 million for regional tourism organizations and $48.1 million for festivals and events.
Earlier this week, a joint report from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario indicated the sector would not fully recover from the pandemic until 2025.
The report suggested several ways for the province to help, including making the staycation tax credit permanent.
The credit allows Ontarians to claim 20 percent of eligible travel accommodations on their income tax.
