Company is signaling move into online betting
The owner of the Toronto Star, along with Niagara three daily newspapers, The Review, Standard and Tribune, is preparing to take a gamble on online betting
Nordstar which recently purchased the chain announcing it wants to open an online gambling site that will fund its newspapers.
In a release, Nordstar says this will help support the growth and expansion of quality, community-based journalism.
But it all depends on the Ford government's next move.
The Tories have signaled they are ready to open the door to allow private companies to run online gambling sites.
But right now only the government is licensed to operate online gaming in Ontario.
